What does a Technical Industrial Placement do?

A year’s Technical Industrial Placement with CGI will help put your theoretical knowledge in to practice, will set you apart from you fellow students in your final year and could mean you leave us with a graduate offer for the following year. You can expect to work on different projects in roles such as Programmer, Tester, Architect or Cyber Security Specialist.

We typically have placement vacancies across our various industries, which include; Central Government, Defence and Intelligence, Energy and Utilities, Financial Services and Space. However, while you may start in one area of the business, the opportunity to move internally is huge.

Not only will you gain a valuable years work experience, assisting you in your final year at university but also our aim with all of our placements is for you to return to us a graduate when you complete your degree.

In fact we have been so impressed with the talent and performance of our industrial placements that we have offered over 90% of them a permanent contract to return before they have even left us.

Due to the nature of our business, you work on ‘projects’. This means you have the opportunity to work across a wide range of roles, industries and locations, there is no ‘typical day’.

It really does vary at CGI and that’s the exciting thing, it is up to you to shape and develop your career in the direction you want to go with the support of others.

Where will you be based?

We recruit placements into various base locations across the UK. Our main hubs for business graduates are; Birmingham, Bristol, Chelmsford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gloucester, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Reading, South Wales, Scottish Borders and Surrey.

As CGI is a consultancy, your projects could be based from other locations asides from your base location, and you should therefore be prepared for travel in your role. Each business unit operates from a different range of offices so we would encourage you to think about how flexible you can be.

Who are we looking for?

Our successful Technical Industrial Placements have come from numerous different universities and have studied anything from Computer Science to Geography, Physics to Chemistry and Mathematics to Aeronautical Engineering. The one thing that unites them all though is their passion and genuine interest in technology.

Depending on the area you would like to join we will consider students on track for a minimum of 2:1.
