Central Government Key Clients and Business Overview

The Central Government BU is led by Michael Herron and broken into 3 sectors:

  • Government managed by Kevin O’Neill (VPCS)
  • Public Safety managed by David Filmer (SVPCS)
  • Justice managed by Russell Goodenough (SVPCS)

CGI has worked at the heart of UK Government for over 40 years delivering complex, mission-critical transformation programs. Together, we continue to keep the critical national infrastructure running whilst providing important citizen-centric services.

Across the BU, CGI works with governments and private sector organisations to shape and deliver their digital transformation journey across areas including digital strategy, citizen and insight.

Members in Central Government typically work all across the UK in Bridgend, Chippenham, Solihull and South East offices.

Some example case studies/clients include:

Disclosure and Barring Service

CGI provides IT services which will support the Disclosure and Barring service (DBS) mission of safeguarding vulnerable UK citizens. We will transition and manage a number of core IT applications, enabling operational excellence in a stable and secure environment. CGI will also provide a Service Integration and Management (SIAM) capability to help ensure the smooth running and security of DBS’s operations.

DBS processes and issues criminal background checks on potential employees across England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man; helping employers and voluntary organisations to make safer recruitment decisions. DBS also maintains barred lists, which provide a record of people who are not permitted to work in regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service

CGI worked with HM Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS) to launch a new digital service to improve the juror summoning process in England and Wales. This will transform the way citizens respond to their summons for jury service and will allow them to respond to their summons online, on their choice of device.

Marine Management Organisation

CGI and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) are working together to monitor the detection of illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing. CGI recently delivered a proof of concept to demonstrate how technology and satellite data could be used to provide an effective surveillance tool for IUU.

We enhanced and integrated two of our existing, proven technology solutions to deliver the proof of concept:
• Rapid Vessel Detection (RVD) tool – a best-in-class vessel detection tool proven to detect even small vessels successfully.
• Cartosys360 – a web-based geo-portal framework, proven in operational use with a range of central government and commercial clients

The solution was designed and implemented on a cloud platform with a consideration of minimising operational costs.
