Practical Guide to Preparing for Your Induction

It’s not long now until you join CGI and we can’t wait! This handy guide contains lots of information to help you prepare ahead of your induction but as always, if you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Early Careers Team.

Preparing for Your Induction

There are some things that you can do in advance of your first day induction to ensure the day runs smoothly and you have everything you need to hand.

  • You should have received the link to the CGI Facebook Group, which you can join should you wish to start networking with other new joiners. Definitely make the most of this group and start getting to know others in it so you can begin to grow your CGI network before you’ve even joined us!
  • You will receive an email from the Early Careers Team around one week before you are due to join us. This email will contain all of the information you need to know about when your induction will take place, how you can access the induction and the plans for your first day with us. Make sure to read this email so that you’re aware of what will be happening on your first day.
  • A few days before your start date, the Early Careers team will be in touch to arrange your equipment delivery. CGI will deliver your work laptop and phone to you so that you have these ahead of your first day. When you receive your equipment, please put it in a safe place and don’t turn any of it on just yet as our IT team will set up the equipment with you on your first day.
  • Your induction will be taking place on Microsoft Teams, as will most of your team meetings when you join us, so you could spend some time familiarising yourself with the platform if you wish. We will be using the chat function and breakout rooms in particular during the induction and there are some good guides on the Microsoft website that you can watch to see how they will work here
  • Our induction sessions are flexible and we want to ensure they provide you with everything you need to know about working at CGI. Therefore it’s worth thinking about what you want to know, jotting down any questions you may like to ask so that we can answer these during the induction.

The Morning of Your Induction

There will be lots of things happening on the morning of your induction as it’s a very busy day! Here is an overview of the activities which will be taking place on the day:

  • You will receive a call from our IT Team to set up your CGI laptop. We will let you know what time to expect this call in your induction email so please have your phone nearby so you can answer easily. If you have not received a call 10 minutes after your designated time slot, then please contact the Early Careers team to let us know so we can follow up for you.
  • You will receive a call from either Annalee Jarvis or Tracey Guichard from the Early Careers Team. They will be conducting our final employment checks so please have your passport readily available as they will need to see this again on a video call.
  • You will receive a call from your Line Manager and Buddy introducing themselves and welcoming you to CGI. We will let you know who will be calling and what time to expect this in your induction email also.
  • Your induction sessions will usually start at 1pm. By this point, all of the above activities will have taken place and the Early Careers Team will send a Microsoft Teams invite to your work email with details about how to log onto the induction session. Your induction will first cover corporate information and teambuilding activities with other sessions split throughout the week and you will get the full week agenda on your first day with us.

Dress Code

The office dress code at CGI is ‘client ready’, which means that you would look smart enough to meet a client arriving at the office. This can differ between projects but it’s always best to be prepared with smart wear in the first instance. If you are working remotely you still need to be dressed appropriately for video calls but of course, will be dressed slightly differently; most members at CGI tend to wear a smart top and comfy bottoms.

Navigating the transition from ‘Campus to Corporate’

Whether you already have experience working for a large company like CGI or this will be your first job, our top three tips below will help you navigate the transition from ‘Campus to Corporate’.  We will talk more about this on your induction but the working environment at a large company can be different to what you’re used to and therefore it’s important to:

  • Ask Questions: No question is a silly question and we want to make sure you have everything that you need to progress within CGI.
  • Speak Up: If you are unsure about anything or are experiencing any problems, then always reach out to someone as we’re here to help.
  • Be proactive: There are lots of members at CGI who can help and support you so make sure to utilise our network and be proactive to explore opportunities available to you.
