Day in the Life of an Early Careers Member at CGI

Members at CGI have the opportunity to work across a wide range of clients, projects and locations. As an Early Careers member, this provides the perfect opportunity to build your network and industry experience to help progress your career. Below are just some examples of roles our Early Careers Members have done!

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our article on Career Development which discusses the career families available at CGI.

Sid - Software Developer

I’m currently a software developer and as part of my role I write and review code for Java applications. Day-to-day, my team and I use the task-tracking software Jira to organise, manage, and record work done. It’s great, as no two jobs you do are the same, so things stay fresh and interesting.

Liz - Test Analyst

I am currently a Test Analyst and my daily responsibilities include maintaining data and test scripts, doing initial investigation of bugs, creating bug reports, test automation, running system tests and liaising with other teams within the project. I have also attended two different external training courses to help with my role and these have given me additional qualifications, I like that CGI invest in training for their members.

Matt - Project Manager

Currently I am a Junior Project Manager in the Central Government BU. My day usually consists of several internal project meetings, monitoring the progress made against baselined plans and then reflecting these updates to the client. I also need to ensure risks are identified and that any blockers to the team’s work are removed to allow smooth delivery. I will also spend some of my time working on bids for future work.

Kerry - Programme Support Officer

I currently work as a programme support officer for a client organisation. I provide support and assistance to the client programme and its projects, acting as a source of programme/project information and metrics. My job involves interacting with a number of project managers on a day to day basis, recording and tracking project progress, risks, finances, resourcing etc.

Chloe - Test Analyst

My current role is Junior Test Analyst within the UK, North & Australia Business Unit. My typical day-to-day work is preparing devices to be tested on. This involves liaising with both clients and the test lab. My work is dependent on other teams in the office, so I often have to work alongside them for both preparation of devices and any problems encountered.
